The sources tell us, that the term "Restaurant" was introduced by the host of a soup kitchen in Paris, called Boulanger. In 1765 he fought against the resistance of the cooks' guild for the approval to offer other small dishes in addition to soup as well (like sheep's feer in sauce ) - in spite of the rules of the guild.
In 1795, he had the following bible verse in Latin placed above the entrance of his restaurant:
"Come to me, all of you whose stomachs are in distress, and I will restore you"
Venite ad me omnes qui stomacho laboratis et ego vos restaurabo
This slogan made that his tavern became famous, called RESTAURANT from the Latin word "restaurabo" – I will restore you.
